Purkiss Delight for Foresters!Foresters Brass 2000 is delighted to announce the appointment of David Purkiss as its new Resident Conductor. David will work alongside the band’s Professional Musical Director, Peter Collins, creating a young, dynamic team at the helm.
A graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, David has been playing the cornet since the age of 4, and has been a key member of several bands, including GUS, Pennine Brass, Fodens and the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army, where he played solo cornet for two years.
He is currently Assistant Director of Music at a secondary school, and told 4BR: “I am very much looking forward to working with Foresters Brass 2000 at what is certainly a really exciting time for the band. In the few weeks I have been involved, it is already clear they are a band with huge talent, and even greater potential.”
Welcoming David to the band, Peter Collins added: “David’s enthusiasm and energy have really impressed me along with the players and the committee – I have every confidence that we will make an excellent team and can really drive forward the passion and potential that there is at Foresters”.
Band Chairman, Gemma Kiddy, told 4BR: “After an excellent 5th position at Butlins, out of a truly strong, international field of bands, we’re really very excited about the future. We have a full band, a great set of players, and now this dynamic duo in the middle: there’s an incredibly positive mood at Foresters at the moment”.
