A Touch of Silver

Foresters Brass held the first of what we hope to be an annual event this weekend, where we were treated to an entertaining and engaging set by Corby Silver Band.

Eric Ball was the name of the night, being the composer of the two assigned test pieces.

Corby Silver took to the stage first, in front of supporters and Foresters Brass and gave us an impressive account of their finals piece, "Petite Suite de Ballet", and despite an unusual acoustic in the hall, Corby Silver quickly adapted, leaving adjudicator Leigh Baker feeling very complimentary about the bands sound and ensemble work.

A few concert pieces followed, featuring "Abide With Me" and "Starlake" before a quick change around and Foresters took to the stage.

We began as Corby Silver did, with a hymn, then settled to perform our finals piece, "Tournament for Brass."

After some selected concert pieces, including "Lake of Tenderness" and "Procession to Covenant", Leigh Baker once again delivered his verdict on the test piece performance.

Whilst it's clear there is work to do on the piece, the players at Foresters Brass are confident of a performance to be proud of at the finals. A busy fortnight of rehearsals awaits.

A big thank you once again to Corby Silver!
